Wheaton’s

WheatonsAfter running Wheaton’s bicycle shop for over 40 years, Margaret LeKander is about to hand the reins to her right-hand man, bicycle expert Hans Axelsen, and his wife, Jeni. But it’s unlikely that the Flathead’s oldest bike shop, which has been in business since 1918, will change all that much. It’s a local staple, and has been a stalwart of Kalispell’s downtown for decades.

PureWest

PureWest PureWest Real Estate, Montana’s premier real estate concierge brokerage, has 18 offices statewide, from Bigfork to Big Sky. The heart of the company, though, is based in Kalispell. The real estate brokerage has called the Flathead Valley home since 1992, when co-owner Dale Crosby Newman moved to this scenic corner of the state after graduating from the University of Montana with a business degree.

Carlson Chiropractic

Carlson Chiropratic Dr. C. Claude Basler, the owner of Carlson Chiropractic in downtown Kalispell, and his wife, Alisha Basler, started looking for a new place to start a family right after Claude graduated from Palmer College Chiropractic in 2013. To find the perfect town, the Michigan natives took a summer road trip, visiting towns and cities across the country.

Ceres Bakery

Ceres LogoThere’s almost always a light on at Ceres Bakery on Main Street in Kalispell. Even if wife-and-husband team Hannah and Rick Grimm, the shop’s owners, aren’t in, at least one of the 14 staff members is guaranteed to be working on something delicious. The bread bakers knead dough late into the night, and the pastry chefs come in early to whip up croissants.

D.A. Davidson

DADavidson Sign ThumbThe Flathead Valley was a very different place in 1974, when D.A. Davidson, an investment and financial planning firm headquartered in Great Falls, Montana, opened a regional branch office in Kalispell. The business community was small, remote, and dominated by traditional industries tied to natural resources. Over the years, as the branch’s Senior Vice President, Bob White, has noticed, the local economy has exploded.
